Things to know.
- Surface broadcast fertilizer mostly fails on trees — feeds the lawn, not the tree.
- Deep-root injection puts nutrients at 6–12 inch depth in the active root zone.
- Best application: late winter / early spring (Feb–March), before the growth flush.
- Most useful for: post-construction stress recovery, valuable ornamentals showing nutrient deficiency, palms in nutrient-poor sandy lots.
- Healthy mature Florida natives often don't need supplemental fertilization. Leaf-litter cycling handles their needs.
